Nicodemus David Hufford III (1915-1986), the son of a minstrel and vaudeville comedian, studied at the Chicago Art Institute. Hufford has painted portraits of Generals Dwight David Eisenhower and Peyton Conway March, which are displayed in the Pentagon's Hall of Generals. He also created the “Quaker Oats Man” and “Aunt Jemima” commercial imagery. While a soldier in World War II he made imagery for military instruction material.
