Nicolas Sanson (1600-1667) was a prominent French cartographer renowned for his contributions to geography. At eighteen, he caught Richelieu's attention with a map of Gaul and later taught Louis XIII and Louis XIV. His major work, "Postes de France," was published in 1632. Sanson passed away in Paris on July 7, 1667, and his sons, Adrien and Guillaume, succeeded him as royal geographers. Hubert Jaillot compiled his maps in an Atlas nouveau in 1692.
